kylgbt.org - Kentucky Equality Federation | Southern Kentucky Region

My name is Halyn Roth. I'm a gay teenager living in a society which treats myself and those like me as second-class citizens. My goal as Southern Kentucky Regional Director for for the Kentucky Equality Federation is to educate people about who the LGBTI community is, and what we believe in.  As the Southern Kentucky Regional Director for Kentucky Equality Federation, it is my job to lead the efforts to move our region forward in the cause of equality.

Contrary to popular belief, gay couples fit the definition of a "family" just as much, or more, than heterosexual couples do. We have children, friends, and livelihoods. We go through the same pain when we are sick, and we laugh just the same when we're amused.

No one likes to be identified by just one part of what makes us whole. By doing so, we play to the most fearful and hateful among us. I encourage you to join me in this effort to bring about a new era of renewed hope for the future of our Commonwealth.

A hope for a brighter tomorrow, where everyone regardless of their race, sex, religion, national origin, disability, or sexual orientation, can live their lives as they see fit. Where we can walk down the street holding the hand of the person you love. Or where we can enter into the commitment of marriage without having to travel to another state to do it.

This is what our organization is about. This is what I am about. I encourage you to be a part of it.

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed people can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has." - Margaret Mead

ABOUT KENTUCKY EQUALITY FEDERATION REGIONAL DIRECTORS: Kentucky Equality Federation has organized the Commonwealth into designated regions. Regional Directors are responsible for that local area, and with other volunteers, expand the Federations membership base. Regional Directors are the primary ‘go to person’ for all things in the Region they are appointed.

Getting Involved!!
I am interested in getting involved with any type of organization that would be of benefit for the local LGBT's in my community. I live in Letcher Co. and as far as I know there are none. If you have any info. on anything near me or get me on the right foot to start something, please let me know. Thanks!

Volunteering or Outreach Program
I would love to be involved in an outreach program and any volunteering in my area "Letcher" I am a student at a local college and there isn't any organizations there for the LGBT groups. There is a need in my community and I would love to be apart of it. I am a leader not a follower and I want to be apart of the change that is long over due. Thanks Angela Slone

Volunteering
I was interested in any volunteer opportunities, in or near my area (Laurel/Rockcastle counties). I am an AmeriCorps volunteer working with a reforestation effort in London and I have only lived in KY for a year. I miss the camaraderie of college groups and am looking for a way to get plugged back into the LGBTI community. If there are not any volunteer opportunities you are aware of, do you know any other organizations that may have some? Thank you for any help you can provide!

Every day, LGBTI people are denied many of the freedoms enjoyed by other Americans. We are committed to secure full equality for the LGBTI community of the Commonwealth. Your support is critical to our success. Please fund our efforts to end discrimination in Kentucky.

"If the continued election setbacks across the nation have taught us anything, it is that nothing can replace volunteering, grassroots organizing, and the perseverance of an all - volunteer organization." - Kentucky Equality Federation President Jordan Palmer in an interview with change.org.
