Contact: Jordan Palmer, President
(877) KEF-5775 - Ext 5 (office)
Kentucky Equality Federation announced
today the appointment of Laura Reed as its
first Managing Director.
Ms. Reed comes to
Kentucky Equality Federation after working with
AmeriCorps (Volunteers in Service to America,
originally created in 1964 by U.S. President
Lyndon Johnson, and later extensively changed
by U.S. President Bill Clinton), the Women's
Residential Addiction Program, and the Women's
Crisis Center, both located in Covington, KY.
"We are thrilled
to have found someone of Laura Reed's caliber
and experience," said Kentucky Equality
Federation Board Member Michael Hollingsworth.
"Laura brings commitment, respect, community
awareness, bridge building, and communication
as an activist."
Reed
joining the organization comes at a time when
Kentucky Equality Federation (who also sponsors
Marriage Equality Kentucky), is reinventing the
way it reaches the LGBTI community and straight
allies.
Over the last
month, Kentucky Equality Federation has named
several Outreach
Directors who will now work directly with
Reed to represent and reach out to members of
Kentucky's LGBTI community who are often not
included, either in positions of leadership or
in public education. Currently, Kentucky
Equality Federation has appointed Outreach
Directors for the following communities: Black,
Latino, Transgender, Youth, and University.
"With vision,
energy and a collaborative spirit, Laura Reed
will work tirelessly towards the advancement of
equality, respect, and acceptance of LGBTI
people in Kentucky," said Kentucky Equality
Federation President Jordan Palmer.
